The town lies on a limestone rock towering 60 meters above sea level. The pride of the Tyrrhenian coast, called “Coast of the Gods”, is surprising for its being small but attractive. In the old town stands the Romanesque-Norman Cathedral, surrounded by a panoramic square below which opens a seaside area or “marina“. Then you will admire the noble buildings of the 7th and 8th centuries perched on a cliff overlooking the sea. Interesting are the portals of the buildings which belonged to the noble families, some equipped with large tanks carved from the soft rock, which were used to collect the grain. There is a private museum of ancient crafts of Calabria and a permanent exhibition of model railways.
