Called since ancient times the Strait of Scylla and Charybdis ,the Messina Strait connects the Tyrrhenian Sea to the Ionian Sea separating the two cities of Messina and Reggio. It can be represented as a funnel with its lesser section towards north, and joining Cape Peloro (Sicily) – The Horse Tower (Calabria) ; towards south this funnel opens gradually up in oblique to the Cape of Arms (Calabria).
