The theater of Reggio Calabria is named in memory of the Calabrian composer Francesco Cilea. Located opposite Palazzo San Giorgio, the building occupies an area between the Corso Garibaldi to the west, the Catholic route at south of the Greeks, the route of the Great Tower to the east and at north route Osanna. With a 1,500-seat capacity it’s the largest theater in Calabria. The hall, in 19th century style, is shaped like a horseshoe; there are three tiers of boxes and a gallery divided by a large royal box in the center. On the first floor, theater is home to the Civic Pinacotheca of Reggio Calabria exhibiting valuable paintings coming from the ancient city museum acquired through bequests, donations and purchases.
